What is the difference between Double Suction Pump and End Suction Pump

The main difference between Double Suction Pump and End Suction Pump is the impeller. The single suction impeller sucks water from one side, and the front and back covers of the impeller are asymmetrical. Double suction pump impeller, on the other hand, sucks water from both sides, and the impeller cover is symmetrical. Usually, large flow centrifugal pumps use double suction impeller.

Its equivalent to two single-suction impellers of the same diameter working at the same time, in the case of the same impeller outer diameter, the flow rate can be doubled; the pump casing is horizontally open in the middle, which is easy to inspect and maintain, meanwhile, the import and export of the double-suction pump is in the same direction as the import and export of the pump and perpendicular to the axis of the pump, which is conducive to the arrangement and installation of the pump and the inlet and outlet pipes; the impeller structure of the double-suction pump is symmetrical, without axial force, but the operation is relatively smooth.

Double suction pump is mainly used for low head flow process. If the flow rate of the pump is greater than or equal to 280m3/h, the pipe diameter can be 200mm or larger, and if the single-suction pump is used, the speed is required to be around 1450rpm to reach the suction requirement. However, if double suction pump is used, the size and weight of the pump can be reduced, and the rotational speed can be increased, increasing the volumetric efficiency and improving the reliability of the equipment.

Main features of End Suction Pump.

The basic components of the End Suction Pump are a high-speed rotating impeller and a fixed worm-shaped pump casing. The impeller with several (usually 4 to 12) backward curved vanes is fixed on the pump shaft and driven by an electric motor to rotate the pump shaft at high speed. The impeller is the part that works directly on the liquid in the pump and is the energy supply device of the centrifugal pump. The suction port in the center of the pump casing is connected to the suction pipe, which is equipped with a one-way bottom valve at the bottom. The discharge port on the pump casing side is connected to the discharge pipe with a regulating valve.

The End Suction Pump is smaller in volume, but the axial force is larger and the bearing load is higher.
